The Mercari seller's tax reality

Marketplace facilitator status means less to file — but nexus tracking still matters.

Gross Sale Price vs. Net Seller Proceeds

Mercari charges a 10% selling fee. "Net Seller Proceeds" is the amount after fees. Taxero uses "Gross Sale Price" — the full sale amount before fees — which is what matters for sales tax and nexus threshold calculations.

Mercari is a marketplace facilitator

Mercari collects and remits sales tax to states on your behalf. You don't owe the tax directly — but your gross sales still count toward economic nexus thresholds in states where you have buyers.

What Taxero does with your data

We read every sale, aggregate by the "Shipped to State" column, and track your approach to nexus thresholds. If you sell on multiple platforms, we combine all sources for a complete picture.
